When interest compounds on an account, this means that interest accrues at a specific frequency and is included in the calculation of interest for the day. Thus, the more frequently interest compounds, generally the more interest the account earns. For example, if interest on an account compounds daily, this means that the interest that accrues each day earns interest. All accrued interest on the account is paid to the account on the date of interest crediting (usually on the statement cycle date for the account, end of month, etc.). Compounded interest differs from "simple interest" in that for those accounts earning simple interest, accrued interest does not earn interest until it is credited to the account.
